Well, holy hot damn… This is the 250th B-Movie Enema article!

So what do I do to celebrate? I kick off a second month of “Full Moon Fever”. I covered a bunch of Full Moon movies back in February of 2017. But then, over the course of the past year or so, I started looking at some other types of movies from Charles Band’s production company. More specifically, I started checking out some of the offerings from Torchlight which was the spicy wing of Full Moon.

Beach Babes from Beyond was one that I chose to do. So, to kick off Full Moon Fever II: Torchlight Diaries, let’s talk about its sequel, Beach Babes 2: Cave Girl Island!

As with the first entry of this duology, Beach Babes 2 is directed by David DeCoteau under one of his many pseudonyms, Ellen Cabot. Unlike the first entry, this movie doesn’t draw the relatives of famous actors to fill out the cast. No Joe Estevez, no Jackie Stallone, no Don Swayze, no Joey Travolta. There’s not even a Burt Ward or Linnea Quigley. I’m sure that will have no significant effect on the sequel.

Let’s get back into the depths of Full Moon Features!

In the 90s, Full Moon was killing it.  They were pumping out movie after movie after movie thanks to the boom of video stores and cable television.  You could make a handful of movies very inexpensively and, instead of the promotional costs to get the word out about a featured film in theaters, processing prints, making the deals with theaters to show the movie, etc., all you had to do is mass produce VHS tapes.  It would also be easy to sell your movie to HBO and Showtime as well.  The profit margin was much higher and you could turn that money right around into more movies for video stores and cable TV.

And, hey, and if you add a little sexy shenanigans with a pretty lead actress – even better!  That’s certainly what we have for you this week.  Another direct-to-video Full Moon selection with a little bit of sexy and a little bit of demon.  It’s 1994’s Dark Angel: The Ascent! Virgin Hunters (aka Test Tube Teens from the Year 2000, 1994)

David DeCoteau is back under one of his many pseudonyms, Ellen Cabot.  One year after Cabot/DeCoteau made the epic Beach Babes from Beyond, he teamed up again with Full Moon Features’ sexier production company subsidiary, Torchlight Entertainment, for another sex comedy.  That’s the topic of this week’s B-Movie Enema – Virgin Hunters!

Now, the title Virgin Hunters was the original name of the movie, however, there was a bit of an issue with the explicit nature of the title.  So, in order for Full Moon’s usual home video partner, Paramount Pictures, to release the film, the title would be changed to the more tongue-in-cheek Test Tube Teens from the Year 2000 and slightly less provocative poster and box art was utilized.

Interestingly, Virgin Hunters is now a franchise.  A second film was released in 2016 and a third in 2017.  You best fuckin’ believe I have those as well and will endeavor to complete the trilogy for you fine Enemaniacs here on the blog. Tourist Trap (1979)

So here’s a movie that goes way back to my early education of horror.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m the youngest of four boys.  Not just am I the baby of the family, but I’m the youngest by a bunch.  My brothers are 15 and 12  years older than me.  I great up in the 80s, and they grew up in the 70s.  My brothers who are 12 years older than me are twins and grew up on some classic 70s slasher flicks.  By the time the 80s classics came along, they were seeing those movies as much as possible, but I was also heavily exposed to a couple decades of movies.  Better yet, like with this week’s movie, Tourist Trap, I was exposed to what my brothers were nostalgic about as well as the new stuff.

Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity (1987)

Here’s a recipe for a B-Movie Enema feature:  One part The Most Dangerous Game, two parts 80s, a couple bimbos, one whole Charles Band, and a whole heapin’ helpin’ of silly sci-fi.  This is what Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity are made of.

And I’m gonna tell you all about it this week!

First off, I want to admit that the title definitely caught my eye, though I’m sure I’ve heard of this before.  Full Moon Direct often has lots of sales on their website.  It’s why you’ve seen me cover more from Band’s company over the past couple months.  What’s great is that I have more to come too!  But another thing I definitely appreciate about this movie is that it isn’t horsin’ around.  It’s 74 minutes, wham, bam, thank  you, ma’am. Beach Babes from Beyond (1993)

Following up on a movie I covered at the end of last year, Space Babes from Outer Space, let’s take a look at what’s likely its most direct influence, 1993’s Beach Babes from Beyond.

Beach Babes from Beyond comes to us from schlockmeister David DeCoteau who, quite frankly, I could have an entire spin-off blog about.  I own both this and its sequel thanks to Full Moon Features who distributes the series on DVD.  If this layered pedigree of DeCoteau and Full Moon ain’t enough for you, well…  Then the cast should also be enough to make you realize this movie is loaded with talent.  First, we have Linnea Quigley who is just a treat whenever you can see her in her prime years of the mid 80s through the mid 90s.  If that ain’t enough for ya, we have royal lineage of Joe Estevez (THE Estevez of the family), Don (who needs Patrick when you got Don) Swayze, Joey Travolta (the name speaks for itself), and the matriarchal Jaqueline Stallone.

Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm (1998)

We’ve reached the end of Subspecies Month.

I’ve got to say, I’ve really enjoyed the three previous chapters in the series.  Are they the very best vampire flicks I’ve ever seen?  No, but it’s worth mentioning that Full Moon Features specifically seemed to try to have some idea of consistency (aside from one piece that I will get to momentarily), and some considerable effort while filming the movies in Romania to add the appropriate flavor to the whole thing.  Additionally, each of the four actual Subspecies flicks were directed by the same guy, Ted Nicolaou, primary villain Radu was played by the same guy, Anders Hove, each time around, and Michele was played by Denice Duff in three of the four films.  That’s consistency that you don’t often find in a lot of direct-to-video horror.  Hell, you may not even always find it big budget horror in the 80s or 90s.

Bloodlust: Subspecies III (1994)

Welcome back to Subspecies Month here at B-Movie Enema.

Full Moon Features had a certified hit on their hands with the first Subspecies film.  The second, Bloodstone: Subspecies II, while leaving me with a whole bunch of questions (not the least, “Where are the Subspecies?”), was still fairly decent.  It wasn’t as good as the first, but was far from some of the really bad cash-ins Full Moon tends to do later  in the 2000s.  The one thing the sequel did, was leave us with a cliffhanger.  Last we saw, Michele (Denice Duff) had seemingly defeated the evil Radu (Anders Hove), but needed to stay behind in a crypt out of the sunlight before being able to leave with her sister Becky (Melanie Shatner).  However, Radu’s mother and beef jerky person, aptly named Mummy, snatched Michele and drug her back below into the crypt for who knows what.  We were teased with a coming soon title card that reminds many of the era of how Back to the Future II teased Back to the Future III.
